Is IP blocking an option?

Is IP blocking an option?
I hope that's a feature. If not, it should be pretty simple to add

For everyone who wants to chat right now, some of the community is over at irc freenode #smilebasic

IP blocking is completely pointless. It is SOOO easy to change your IP, and some people are behind a NAT where like 10 people are using the same IP. It'd cause more problems than it would solve.

Instead of banning all the alts, why can't you just make it so accounts have to be specially allowed to enter the chat so you can't just make new alts without getting them certified first?

Lumage suggested that too. IDK I think it could work, but then people would have to wait to be able to enter chat, and that kind of sucks. Plus if the admins go away for a while, nobody new will be able to chat. I will write the disclaimer and just enforce a simple set of rules. Not all this garbage that's hard to remember, but just "free for all but at admin's discretion, extreme behavior will result in a ban". OK I've made up my mind; I'm just fixing up the chat server and then I'll turn it back on.

YAY!

Hey, I just wanted to apologize for my angry ramblings yesterday. I was really invested in this and seeing it taken away in one big swipe felt really unfair, plus all the other password nonsense. Now that the site is back on, I can think about it calmly and I have to say, Random handled this with a level of professionalism that I could never even imagine myself having. Major honors to him for this. Many people would see the taking down as a rash and impulsive move, but random's reasons (basically avoiding the risks of going to jail) for doing it are quite well justified, and not once did he lose his temper trying to explain the situation back on the Petit Computer wiki. Good job.

I'm not amazed. Random is the most mature person I know. If anyone else was put into this situation (For example, me), I'd probably flip out and just give up on the site. Random did similar, but fixed everything after. I'm absolutely impressed.

Well thank you everyone, but if you had seen me in chat before I took it down, you may have a different opinion. I was in no way mature or calm... still, I'm grateful for your praise. The chat is almost done... this disclaimer stuff is taking longer than I expected.

I'll help translate that to french if you want. I'm sure a disclaimer has to be translated more strictly than a random webpage, so I'll probably need your help anyways but hey at least I speak french.

It's really only our English speaking users that cause such trouble. I think we'll be fine for now.

Can't wait for chat to be back!

>Sam comes and attempts to take over the chat (Sam is from Quebec) >Random pwns him >Sam gives up

Ideally you could use php to implant a cookie on everyone's computer when they login to the website. Have a Boolean variable called accessGranted or something that is set to true for every user on their pc. Then implement a way to set his to false. My programing friend suggested this. Any possibilty random?

Uh? Isn't this just a ban? You should never set data like this locally either; if it's not on your server, it's not under your control.

We could also just ignore him, as well as that old saying goes... "You cant let something hurt you unless you allow it" even though this is taughtmto young children, we can still learn something from this and not let some random persons actions affect us

Now i sound like a counsler... Great

yes, the classic "put the anarchy in a box and leave them alone unless they get too loud and rowdy and then call in a few cops to deal with it" maneuver. interesting to see where this goes, but what about our IRC friends?
