Honestly, I just want something like Lua tables or Javascript objects.
+1 for Lua tables. JS objects are nasty though.
Lumage banned +1s a while ago

But... They're basically the exact same thing
PLUS ONE Jk I really don’t know either language well enough to know what either thing is LOL

Tables are basically fancy arrays and look up object orientated programming

https://twitter.com/notohoho/status/1025922736512585728 Some interesting tweets, not sure how much of this is new info:
  • Although the Switch version isn't compatible with the 3DS/Wii U versions' code, they're considering letting you read 3DS/Wii U public keys to facilitate porting programs over.
  • Each GRP page will be 32-bit color (8-bit alpha) with a resolution of 2048x2048. (3DS was 16-bit 512x512, Wii U was 32-bit(?) 1024x1024)
  • At least at the moment, the Switch version is a bit faster than the Wii U version, and expressiveness is improved a bit.
  • Sprites, BG, text, and graphics will be reorganized/consolidated.
I’m kind of disappointed that SmileBASIC 4 won’t be compatible with SmileBASIC 3’s code. But at least there will be more uses to commands because of this (I hope).

People were also upset that SB wasn't compatible with PTC. but imagine how much worse SB would be...

I looked on the page for SmileBASIC 4, and it says it will only be released in Japan. This worries me a little. I know the Switch isn’t region locked, but SmileBASIC 4 will most likely be priced, meaning that we would have to get a Japanese credit/eShop card if we wanted to get it. Are there any reports of an overseas release from SmileBoom?

You can pay with PayPal on the Japanese eShop, and PayPal can convert currencies, so that should work, but now that I look it up, you might need a Japanese PayPal account? I've bought games from the Japanese eShop before, but I don't remember what all I had to do to get it to work. I can't find anything definite on SmileBASIC 4 outside of Japan, though there's this tweet from before SmileBASIC 4 was announced. Personally, my hunch is that it will make it over eventually. Considering they still decided to release SmileBASIC 3 in Europe and Oceania, despite all the trouble they had getting it through the approval process, and the fact that it was really late in 3DS's lifespan by the time it did get approved, I feel like they do care about the overseas community. I think it'll be easier for them to bring it over this time around too, considering they've got more profitable stuff like Smile Game Builder bringing cash in now. Selling NoE on a programming tool will probably be a lot easier the second time through as well, now that they can point to SmileBASIC 3, Fuze BASIC... hell, even Nintendo Labo. So, there may be a bit of a gap between Japan and elsewhere, but I don't anticipate a huge gap between America and everywhere else this time around. (Sure, BIG never made it over... but then that was on the Wii U, and Kobayashi has tweeted that the reason BIG wasn't being brought over was because of the combination of the poor sales of the Wii U and the fact SmileBASIC is niche to begin with.)

One cool thing about the Switch: the cartridges taste nasty!

I can't believe it! (Also I actually licked a cartridge a few months ago.)

Did you know that the Switch can play games? C R A Z Y Okay enough of this back to SmileBASIC 4 If SmileBASIC 3 programs are mostly compatible with SmileBASIC 4, the first program I would like to port over is Otya Window System. There’s so much potential with SmileBASIC 4’s mouse support!

We should probably continue discussing SB4 on the SB4 thread lol

Oh. It hasn’t really been active recently though. Posting there would be necroposting.

Toad likes this.

Has the release date for SB4 been announced? Because I feel like predicting it and the release date for a potential localized release.
