Fundraiser for a contest?

What do you guys think, if we started a GoFundMe page for a SmileBASIC contest, then whoever wins the contest (from a poll) would receive the money in a gift card of their choice? This would give incentives to code awesome stuff over Summer break. If anyone wants to do this, it would be preferred that a smilebasicsource admin host the fundraiser, otherwise I can do it too. I'd love to donate some for a contest like this. Does anybody not want this? Let's do a poll :) [poll=p370][/poll]

Another idea would be to have a contest where you have the option to work in a group of maybe two people, and the reward gets split between each team member of the winning group. Thoughts?

No? Aw

I'm willing to personally fund the next contest as long as it's an official one run by Random or Lumage. Just waiting on Random's return. (Hint hint. If you are reading this)

Well I'm just saying, that would put a limitation on the contest, if there was a fundraiser without a limit (or a unreasonably large maximum) that was open all summer, the contest would be a lot more successful. Of course this would also require smilebasicsource to implement a verified user system such that a user must be on SmileBASIC for X amount of time (or a similar test) to let that user vote, so that nobody can own more than one accounts. A fundraiser might be taking it too far.

This sounds cool, but I wouldn't hold my breath on anything being added to the site. Random has shown disinterest in adding new features to the site for a year now, and says new features would require a total rewrite of SmileBASIC Source. Even simpler bugs haven't been fixed due to Random being busy (which is completely valid, but doesn't change the fact that the site isn't really being maintained anymore). Because of this, I doubt a verified user system would be added, sadly. Though I have been thinking about some things related to a new, legitimate replacement to SBS that would be an open-source project, and thus could be maintained by the community. That way, if other developers are busy, people who care about the site could add features/fix bugs. I don't think I'll be able to go through with it though, unless others show interest.

The current action of the SmileBASIC Source shadow government is to postpone contest runs in anticipation of the 3.6.0 update and the ability to take screenshots again (for non-homebrew users). Under assumption that 3.6.0 will come to other regions eventually, that's what's preventing contest planning (primarily). It's likely that the next contest will not have a monetary prize, but this is not due to lack of source--the first contest in a while will be to test the waters for future contests following concerns raised. We appreciate the enthusiasm for fundraising community activities and will ask the community for support if necessary, but at this point it is not the issue in running them. Additionally, a specific "registered users" system is unnecessary at this time: we are already able to verify validity of contest votes. If anything changes, we'll let you know (noncommittal).

Makes sense.
...the first contest in a while will be to test the waters for future contests following concerns raised.
I'm assuming these concerns are about the life expectancy of SmileBASIC and, by extension, SBS?

I'll take it. Free eShop card for me. ...If I somehow manage to win.

Yeah, any words on the update or is there still a lot of silence? I would donate about $10 (whatever) twards a contest.. Though just wondering, if one came about how would the new theme be casted into the game? In the past I assume it has been a staff decision, though I've always wondered how you guys decided past contest themes.
