Now you can finally find out with Versus Buffalo, the sequel to Virtual Buffalo. Now up to 4 players can compete to see who can keep their virtual pet alive the longest through an onslaught of lightning-fast minigames. Everything is controlled via matching colored buttons, but be careful... Your buttons will keep changing the longer you play! Will you be able to remember which button is which? Your pet is counting on you! Featuring:
  • New Characters, each with their own unique animations!
  • New Minigames!
  • New Graphics for all returning Minigames
  • New Options for customizing your game
  • New Secrets to be discovered...

Instructions:

Supports handheld mode, single Joy Con, and Pro Controller
    Navigate menus with the Analog Sticks or A/B/X/Y buttons
  • Press colored buttons to activate objects with matching colors
  • The Left Stick and Right Stick can also activate colored buttons
  • Press L+R or SL+SR to pause/resume/quit to menu

This is great, but it seems very hard to introduce the mechanics to people who haven't played Virtual. Playing solo is the easiest way to learn. Will there be a Virtual port?

Sorry if I wasn't clear - You can still play Versus Buffalo solo. At which point it behaves just like a Switch-remake of Virtual.

Rgames, early on there were some experiments on adding netplay to the original version. The end result was... underwhelming. There were more than enough sprites to go around, but at 240p the screens were too small to share with other players. and if you couldn't see what everyone else was up to, it really didn't feel like multiplayer. Most importantly, there just wasn't a "market" for it. The demographic of "I have 1-3 friends in the room who also have Smilebasic on their 3DS" is really small. And if you really did want to compete with them, all you would have to do is press start at the same time.

Glad to hear it! I think that demo was so premature that I was still using the food bowl as a placeholder for the swimming pool...

I'm thinking something along the lines of this: You submit your idea as a mocked-up screenshot. No words, no descriptions, just a single image communicating entirely through visuals. Then from that single screenshot, I can tell right away if it's a good fit for a rapid-fire, no-tutorial game like Buffalo. And if it's a good fit, it gets added in with a future update.

Definitely host it. I don't know if I'd be able to participate since I'm waiting for NA release of SB4 and also probably lacking programming knowledge in general, but I'd like to see what others come up with.

To be clear, I wasn't looking for anyone to program their own Minigame. You could if you wanted, but for the contest I just wanted a picture of your idea. Draw your idea for a minigame (on a napkin, in MS Paint, whatever) and post it without any words or description. If I really like your idea, I'd do the rest of the work.

Oh right, I didn't really offer any explanation for her did I? She's Stella the Tomato Duck. She likes breadcrumbs and hates marinara. (She was the only leftover character I had that also fit the existing hitboxes.)

It's also a mild prank on my part. Those familiar with Stella wouldn't expect her to make cameos, especially compared to the more popular characters. Thematically she's coming out of left field. It would be like casting a Piranha Plant as a playable fighter... but ignoring everyone else from Super Mario.
