Sure, it's more powerful, but more people have 3DS's, and if you're at home, you can just use a(n even faster) computer to program in a better (less limited) language.
I mean, I guess you could use the Wii U to make programs to play on the 3DS, but they could have just released a keyboard for the 3DS using the IR port...

This isn't about a company favoring one over the other. This is about a company trying to weigh all of its options and make the most money best experience for all consumers.

Theres the fact that a lot of people don't have touchscreens and multiple gamepads for their PC.
SmileBasic lets you rapidly prototype basic games without worrying about compatability, and thats perfect for throwing up on the big screen.

( This will never happen though... so I will continue to work on my secret project)
I just hate the Wii U. Mostly because it has great games but isn't worth buying (for me) because I would rarely be able to use it.

That's money and R&D time SmileBoom doesn't have. They'd make soooo much less money if they just put a keyboard out instead of an entirely new version. So little people would buy it.
You're also missing the point entirely. It's a different platform with different opportunities and targets. You don't like the Wii U? Fine. Don't use it. They make both to earn more money so we have a choice.

Really defeats the purpose of the hypervisor used to oppress indie devs, ha!
Nintendo has always been huge butts about rights to development ever since the video game crash of '83.
It's not like the indie scene now is any less brazen or crude & Nintendo wants to really thwart attempts to subvert that.
I can't blame them, however I feel SmileBASIC's resource limitations might be some way to... prevent certain issues... I think. We certainly can't make anything too graphic, but it's not like you can't make something that conveys offensive ideas.
I might be wrong for why the intent, I mean, I would think that's the purpose of the programs being submitted for review. So they can chuck out copyright violations, nudity, gore & other things that are an offense in Nintendo's eyes. It's definitely hindering performance on purpose, but I agree it is confusing why.
It is a surprise at all we have something like this is what I'm saying, so I'm just dealing with the limitations & grateful for it's existence, but I would like a better explanation myself for the hypervisor.

That's what the server review and report/blocklist functions are for.
SmileBASIC is a retro revival platform. We all seem to want to deny it, but there it is. It's a modern spin on the classic BASIC approach to simple programming systems. If SmileBoom didn't have to answer to Nintendo, the core feature-set would be more-or-less the same.
Fantasy consoles like PICO-8 exist for similar reasons: accessibility within a simple platform, but also as a challenge to programmers in a modern world. It's an app for hobbyists. That's all it is.

more like very definitely
Also, BIG was a temporary name (for Japan?). As far as I know the title for release is the (more bland) SmileBASIC WiiU Edition. (Japan might be Petit Computer BIG though? I don't remember too well anymore.)

I'm totally fine with it as I like making those kinds of games. There is honestly a lot that can be explored still with older hardware & I think it's life was prematurely expended by the pace of hardware. There is still so much to be explored by indies even in the restrictions given by SmileBASIC.

I'm just curious why he'd even bring back up FNaF SB. Seems weird to me.
