Hello. I am a really big fan of Plants vs zombies. i know i could get in trouble for something like this, but i still want to attempt to make a game similar or as close to it as possible. With Pvsz3 coming out soon it tells me Popcap will certainly not make plants vs zombies 2 for 3DS (and I really wanna play on the 3DS for some reason), so i think i could create something like it. It will have pixelated graphics (because It would be impossible to actually recreate it pixel by pixel and I don't hack, so...) I do have some sprites done, but I have to create the map and of course I have to at least (for now) code a tutorial, but I already have the title screen done. And I tend to have other things to do (school, chores, hanging out, messing around, basically wasting time anyway you can think of), so it would add on to the time it takes, so note it won't be out soon and may not be out ever if they don't let it pass. Also ironically someone on twitter asked for it on 3DS and Popcap replied basically saying look for more updates soon basically sounding like it was happening when it wasn't so now I guess more people want than I thought

Also yes I know it isn't good to tackle HUGE projects as your first thing and annouce it, but i'll be fine if i do enough research...
I really wouldn't start with something so big. Try smaller things first.

Look. I don't intend to be mean or rude, but if you don't have a somehow sturdy knowledge on how to code, I wouldn't recommend you to go that fast on projects. It's like not knowing composition and saying "I'm gonna write a 5-hour symphony"

Yeah. You probably want to learn the basics first if you don't know that much, and after that you can learn more advanced stuff. And once you know enough, that's when you can start. I've learned this from experience. When I tried making some sort of BTD game when I had barely started, it didn't work out and I ended up deleting the project. But then I started to learn different things and get deep into different things, and eventually restarted the BTD game. Guess what. It also died. So I learned more, and kept going. Eventually I got so deep that a few months ago, I restarted it yet again, and it's still going. (also it's going really good, almost at release :)) Or in other words, don't go for the big stuff yet. Shoot for the stars, get to them, don't act like you're already there. You need to get in your ship and travel there first. I would recommend randomouses tutorials, they are really easy to learn from. Super awesome tutoial

Iā€™m gonna have to agree with the others on this. Trying to make a fan-game of something like PvZ2 is just too big for having basically no programming knowledge. Iā€™d really be interested in helping if you had more experience and/or SB had some features to make group projects easier. Just a side note, your profile description is about as relatable as profile descriptions get for me. Edit: I was typing this before you sent the message before this one

You can also start by writing different Engins (Input, Sprite using, Music, etc.)for your game and save them to seperate files. Thees can be tiny and than you can try to combine. So you can start with small projects and can follow your dream-game. (This sounds easier than it is.) (You don't need to reply this, i understand your frustration. But don't give up.)

Ok, let's back up a bit. Plants Vs. Zombies is not your property. If you want to make a fan game that is for you and only you and never is distributed to the rest of the world, well how can anyone stop you. However, if you want to share the game with the world, you have a problem. SmileBoom will remove projects from their servers that use other people's intellectual property. If you make a clone of Plants Vs. Zombies and put it on SmileBoom's servers, chances are it will get taken down. Even if it doesn't Zynga/PopCap can bring legal proceedings against you. It doesn't matter if you are making money off of it or not. All is not lost, because Copyright is based on expressions of ideas and not the ideas themselves. So, if you want to make Squirrels Vs. Clowns, that happens to play very similarly to Plants Vs. Zombies, well, you can do that and no one will stop you. Furthermore, if you wanted to say port it to Android or Steam you could even try to sell it. Just make sure it is reasonably different and isn't directly copying anything too specific. Sorry if that ruins all your pixel art. Now, on to the coding. People are trying to help you. You need to get your skills up before you try something of this magnitude. No one is saying you can't do it, they are telling you need to practice and learn with simpler things first. In fact if you do all of the learning and simple programs first, it is likely to take less time than trying to brute force your way through with the dream project. You are also more likely to have a better project overall if you put in the time to learn to do things well. DaVinci probably made thousands of pictures before he painted the Mona Lisa, everyone needs practice and skills building. If you don't put in the practice you are more likely than not to paint yourself into a corner and bury yourself in complexity. No one wants that, we want you to be successful. One more thing, if this going to take years, you may want to start on SmileBasic Switch, the 3DS's days are numbered. If you need some practice you could try out the exercises I swiped from exercism.io (5RDXV3CJ).

You could try encrypting it using actorbug's PACK tool (74N3F3D4). The key is also available on the "Games and Programs" page. By the way, you seem to be good with pixel art. That's good! Remember, just take lighter steps and work on something smaller first. Hell, make a few practice programs before working on those smaller programs (99 bottles of beer, anyone?). Once you've got a grasp on SmileBASIC, you can use your programming knowledge combined with your pixel art skills to make a really good game, even that PvZs one you were talking about before. If you do decide to work on PvZs again after learning more about SmileBASIC, I would recommend re-coding it from scratch if you have any existing code. This will allow you to easily apply any new skills you've learned. Save the graphics though, there isn't anything wrong with them.

btw, if you want to show better quality photos of your pixel art/game, you can push select while in your program (and also the Smiletool I think) to save a screenshot to your camera roll. Then you can go to the Image Uploader while on your 3ds and upload the pictures there.

You don't have to make a clone. It could just be something similar, but different in ways like game mechanics and sprites. Then SmileBoom won't take it down. EDIT: Sorry I didn't see the 2nd page. You probably shouldn't violate copywrite, though.

I don't know pretty much about encrypting, but I think you'll need to put a password on it, usually randomly generated.
